Here’s our list of stars who stood out in Indian Cinema this year. The way we arrived at this list: We looked at the 10 stars who starred in an Indian movie in 2017 and consistently ranked the highest on the IMDb weekly STARmeter chart throughout 2017.
#10: Katrina Kaif
Katrina Kaif charmed audiences as Shruti, the adventurous yet accident-prone sidekick in Anurag Basu‘s Jagga Jasoos and switches gears to come back as secret agent Zoya in the international action thriller Tiger Zinda Hai, which was shot in picturesque locations like Austria, Morocco, Abu Dhabi and Greece. Next year, Kaif is confirmed to star in Yash Raj Film’s next project Thugs of Hindostan, the studio’s biggest budget film to date.
#9: Hrithik Roshan
In 2017, Hrithik Roshan intrigued audiences with his performance as Rohan Bhatnagar, a blind man who seeks revenge for his wife’s death, in Kaabil. Kaabil is Roshan‘s first time playing a blind character and working with director Sanjay Gupta. Fans will see him back on screen as math genius Anand Kumar in Vikas Bahl‘s Super 30 and in superhero suit in Krrish 4.
#8: Anushka Shetty
Anushka Shetty had a busy year with roles in big budget movies like Singam 3, Om Namo Venkatasaya and most notably as the fearless arrow-slinging princess Devasena in Baahubali 2: the Conclusion. Of the actors in our top 10 countdown, Shetty has moved up the most number of IMDb StarMeter ranks in the last year.
#7: Anushka Sharma
At the start of 2017, Anushka Sharma took on the unexpected role of Shashi, a spirit trapped between two worlds in Phillauri, a movie produced by Sharma‘s home production Clean Slate Films. Later in the year, Sharma teamed up with director Imtiaz Ali for the first time in Jab Harry Met Sejal, a story about a women who travels through Europe looking for her missing engagement ring.
Prabhas mesmerized audiences as Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali in the highly anticipated Baahubali 2: the Conclusion, the final installment of director S.S. Rajamouli‘s inter-generational saga. To transform into a legendary warrior, Prabhas intensively trained for months and reportedly gained over 40 pounds to get the look right. In 2018, we’re looking forward to seeing him in Saaho.
#4: Tamannaah Bhatia
With over 50 credits to her name, Tamannaah Bhatia rose in popularity as Avantika in the Baahubali 2: the Conclusion and Ramya in Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan. Next year, Bhatia is set to star in director Kunal Kohli‘s first Telugu-language project Love Otsavam, Pon Ondru Kandan and Sketch opposite Vikram.
#3: Salman Khan
From playing a troubled older brother who wants to stop the Sino-Indian war in Tubelight to making a comeback as secret agent Tiger after 5 years in Tiger Zinda Hai, Salman Khan’s fans can look forward to seeing the actor star in projects like Race 3, Dabanng 3 and Remo’s Dancing Dad in 2018.
#2: Aamir Khan
In 2017, critically and commercially successful actor Aamir Khan made a cameo appearance in Secret Superstar, as music director Shakti Kumar. Plus, Khan’s other home production Dangal(2016) broke box office records with international releases in China, Taiwan and Turkey in 2017. Next year, Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan will share screen space for the first time in Vijay Krishna Acharya‘s Thugs of Hindostan, produced by Yash Raj Films.

Celebrating 25 years in Hindi Cinema, Shah Rukh Khan rules over the hearts of IMDb users worldwide as the #1 star in an Indian Movie this year. In 2017, the actor starred as as a ruthless businessman in Raaes and eccentric tour guide in Jab Harry Met Sejal, directed by Imtiaz Ali. Fans can look forward to the actor in an untitled project based on operation Khukriand Anand L Rai’s Untitled Project next year.
